MWWC teams tie Brockville in quest for the Challenge Cup

On January 7th, two MWCC curling teams and several support crew (DD’s) ventured west to Brockville to attempt to regain possession of the prestigious Challenge Cup. The cup has been in continuous circulation since 1874, making it the oldest professional sporting cup in North America. It was last won by MWCC in 1931.

Our two teams (Scott Grafton, Steve Holdaway, Rob & Marc Philion, Alex Hall, Stew Yaxley, Greg Stachura & Brian Williams) competed fiercely for 10 ends, but ended up tied 17-17 and (sadly) Brockville retained the cup.

The challenge extended beyond the ice to include many rounds of liquid refreshments including the filling of the Cup with a Rusty Nail of mammoth proportions – to be passed around and consumed by all participants!
