The first edition of the Karl Murovic Classic was held the weekend of November 3-5. 18 teams from 8 different clubs around Montreal participated (Montreal West, Baie d’Urfe, Glenmore, TMR, Royal Montreal, Pointe-Claire, Boucherville, and St-Lambert). It was a triple knockout format. The weekend was a huge success; all participants had so much fun! Many of you came out to watch and cheer on our local teams!
A raffle was held on Saturday evening with all proceeds collected going to the Montreal Neurological Hospital and Institute – ALS Fund. (Karl passed away from ALS). We were able to raise over 900$ with the raffle and in addition, a generous benefactor made a $2,500 donation to the event in memory of Karl. A total of $3,400 was raised and donated to support research on this disease!!
The A-finals were very appropriate having one local team against an adopted local team. After a very good run, Maria Brown’s team (Maria Brown, Earl Lasalle, John Michalovic, Alisha Michalovic, and Mike Marak) lost in the finals to Marc Philion’s team (Marc Philion, Daniel Philion, Steven Fagen, and Alex Patton).
In the A-Consolation game we had Pierre Chayer’s team from Boucherville (Pierre Chayer, Stephan Ratté, Patrice Boucher, and Patrick Chayer) out play Vlad’s team from Glenmore (Vladimir Freud, Terry Coderre, Carmine Pollice, and Mike Tomaszewski).
The B-finals went to an extra end. The team from Baie d’Urfe (Glenn Wight, Robbie Read, Charles Gagnon, and Martin Lavoie) drew just an inch too far and gave up the game to Zack Wise’s team from Glenmore (Zack Wise, Michael Solomon, Adam Cartwright, and Mitch Fogel).
In the C-finals, we had the Pointe-Claire junior team (Zachary Janidlo, Owen Paterson, Nicolas Janidlo, Cole Richard, and Coby Olszewski) who will participate in the U-18 tournament against Nick Backman’s team from TMR. Nick Backman’s team composed of Rob Philion, Nick Backman, Rob Levi and Ron Gallant came out on top.
Congratulations to all finalists! Thanks to everyone who participated and made this event a success! And a special thanks to everyone who helped during the event to keep it running smoothly. We hope to see you all next year in the second edition!
