14 teams play for glory (and $$$) in the 2020 Calcutta Bonspiel

The 2020 Lyle Bradford Calcutta was an entertaining and challenging event featuring a roster of 14 teams and numerous owners. Several veteran champions and a whole flock of young and talented skips participated in the hunt for cash and glory!

The Calcutta auction was held on Feb 3rd with John Ford presiding over several syndicates, skips and members who forked out a total of $5,585 for team ownership. The resulting payouts for the 5 winning owners ranged from $720 (A Finalist, AC,B,C winners) to $1900 (A winner).

The teams were evenly matched and several games were only decided after extra ends had been played. After Tuesday’s games were over only four teams were left standing making it to the “A” semi-finals: Rob & Marc Philion, Jeff Cohen and Scott Grafton. In Thursday’s Finals the Rob Philion rink overcame Team Philion (Marc) to walk away with the top prize in $$$$. (In an unusual twist, Marc lost to Rob on the opening night, but managed to remain in the A as the wild card team.)

In the A Consolation, B and C final matches all contests went the full 8 ends and were decided with final rocks. Team Grafton won over Team Cohen to win the A Consolation, Tyler Watson and team prevailed over Team Williams in the B division and Team Weingartshofer beat the Romer Rink in the C division. The consolation drink in the D final went to Mark Watson’s team. Congratulations to all participants.
