The 2019 Lyle Bradford Calcutta was a successful event featuring a roster of 12 teams and numerous owners. The auction was a lively (and long) affair as our new auctioneer John Ford worked the audience into a frenzy at times by pushing up bids to the $350-400 range. This year Jones Syndicate driven by Eddy Jones was more successful than most in picking up shares of 2 winning teams (including the big A final payout). The Ladies Syndicate headed by Sandra Jones & Cathy Hughes held on to one winning team and also made good returns on 4 pari-mutuel investments. The teams were evenly matched and most games were played down to the last stones.
After Tuesday’s games were over only four teams were undefeated making it to the “A” semi-finals: Mark Watson, Pierre Cadorette, Mark Romer & Daniel Philion. In Thursday’s Finals Team Watson overcame Team Cadorette to walk away with the top prize in cash payouts.
In the A Consolation, Team Romer held a comfortable lead over 7 ends but a late 3 point drive in the 8th end produced a win for Daniel Philion’s team. In the B final, Marc Philion & team took an early lead and held on to win over Team Friesen. The C final Team Weingartshofer played a tight game against Team Cohen and held on to claim the prize money. The consolation drink in the D final went to Scott Grafton’s team.
